social & medical care at homeToday in Kharkiv many old, sick people, especially single ones, suffer from lack of medication, social assistance and unqualified care.

According to official statistics 15% of people aged 65-74 suffer from immobility and after the age of 75 the number of those suffering increases. Up to 31% of those people experience difficulties in self-supply; 8% - do not leave their flats; 5% - do not leave their beds.

With regard to the fact that the majority of the elderly people refuse to change their traditional life habits and leave their homes, we assumed that setting up a mobile services is the most appropriate solution to tackle these problems. Within the framework of this project, we are rendering homecare services to 60 single elderly sick people residing in the Kievskiy rayon of Kharkiv city. We provide the following social and medical services:

  • Meals on wheels
  • Delivering food packages 4 times a month
  • Delivering household packages once a month
  • Laundering and ironing
  • Doing up flats
  • Medical examination by a therapist 2-3 times a month with prescriptions
  • Blood pressure measuring
  • Intramuscular and intravenous injections

Practically all our clients suffer from acute cardio-vascular or oncological diseases, problems with the locomotor system or insular diabetes. Medical treatment is very important, but can no more drastically change their physical condition to the better. Therefore, our social support is an important factor to strengthen the clients’ psychological resistance to the physical illnesses.
